Builders Skip Hire

When you are doing a few jobs on the house it will be easy to pick out a skip that will be the right size for the amount of rubbish you have to get rid of. If you are a firm and working on a few houses in the area as often happens when there is a good deal of regeneration happening in an area you will need a lot of skips and quite often much bigger ones than usual.

Hiring a Builders Skip

Builder’s skips are the most popular type of skip as they hold a great deal of rubbish and as long as you have the space to keep it, it will make the job a lot easier. There is no need to worry about filling it up on the first day and then having to have one skip emptied before the next one arrives.

Regardless of whether you are working on one house or a few, this will be the best option. As the builders skip is well constructed and solid there is no problem regarding the items that are put in them. There are still items that are forbidden to put in any skip as the companies hiring out the skip will not be able to dispose of them, but when it comes to bricks and building materials everything can be put in.

Wherever you live – within reason - there will be a company nearby who will be able to arrange a skip for you and as well as dropping off the skip for you to fill will then return to collect it and dispose of the contents. Depending on where you will be placing the builders skip, you may need a permit from the local council. In many cases it is around £10 to get the permit, but different councils will vary. Some companies will include the cost and arrangement on the price when you hire the builders skip from them.

What Can Go Inside a Builders Skip Hire

While a lot of things can be put in the builders skip, there are also a lot that cannot go in. Items such as fridges and televisions cannot just be sent to landfill so the suppliers will probably refuse to take them. Included in the price of the skip will be the land fill charges, so if the hire price seems expensive, the rising cost of landfill needs to be taken into account. You will also be told you must not place batteries, paints, food waste, tyres, computer monitors, aerosols, gas canisters, plasterboard, fridges or freezers inside the skip.

When you arrange for the skip to be collected it must not be too full. If it is overloaded the driver may decide that it will be too dangerous for them to load it onto the truck. Builders skips are not overly expensive – quite often around £130 + vat with the possibility of needing an on road parking permit. So it would be best to order two rather than risk having the skip left behind until you take things out of it.
